First off, I LOVED the cast and the creative use of actors in multiple roles - the actor who played both Tybalt and Juliet's nurse was probably my favorite. I also liked the very appropriate depiction of Romeo and Juliet as passionate but childish adolescents and the overall comedic interpretation of act I. But it's perhaps because of these strengths that act II seemed to lose steam a bit. The comedic tone dissipates as it inches closer to the tragic end, and the dynamic secondary cast are left with little to do but to lay still on the floor. However I think this miiiight not really be a fault of this production so much as it is a problem in the play itself? imo act II has TOO much Romeo and Juliet! The secondary cast and the comedic tone are what keep the play from feeling maudlin, and those things are gradually stripped away in act II. But (once I add the ability to comment) feel free to debate me on this if you think I'm wrong to criticize Shakespeare 😛
